1940 Chris Craft Custom Barrel Back

This 1940 Chris Craft Custom Barrel Back is one of the rarest and most unique Chris Crafts in existence.  In the nine years preceding Pearl Harbor, Chris Craft built just 62 of the 17-foot triple cockpit runabouts. Over those  production  years, this model got more expensive, more luxurious and  what became known  as the “barrel back”  stern  became more pronounced. It features a rare 85-horse Chris Craft 6 cylinder engine, which has been completely rebuilt. The boat only has 15 hours on it since its restoration. Unfortunately, it has a little damage, though it’s not extensive and is reportedly very fixable. But that’s good news for you because the price is way less than most barrel backs. This 1940 Chris Craft Custom Barrel Back is located in Cedar, Minnesota, and you can Buy It Now for only $36,500.

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna sell ya this Tahiti, you want it, oh you know you’ll feel good in a new jet boat. You”ve spent too many long summer days with that song playing in your head, but now this 1979 Tahiti bubble deck jet boat is available and ready for you to sail off to your own private Kokomo. The boat is in very good original condition. There are just a few scratches and some slight stress cracking in the original gelcoat. Overall the seller rates it a strong 8. The interior is in excellent condition, and the boat has newer rigging including all cables and steering. Most importantly, the 427 Chevy big block that powers this Tahiti bubble deck runs flawlessly. It’s located in Kirkland, Washington, and it’s listed on eBay with a current bid of only $1,000.

Personal Submarine

Be the first person on your block to own a submarine. Yes, a submarine. But you won’t be patrolling the Persian Gulf in this sub. You might not even be able to maintain order in your backyard pool with this homemade submersible. All we really know is that it was a functioning submarine when it was built. Not even sure how old it is, but it’s probably 30 or 40 years, but it’s been sitting in the second owners yard as a “conversation piece” for the last 25 years. I can only imagine those conversations.

“Hey Bill, what the hell is this?”
“Oh, that’s my homemade submarine.”
“No shit, and you’re still alive?”

Anyway, regardless of condition and unknown origin, this is a pretty cool deal, and you can be sure no one else will have one. This one-man sub is located in Lancaster, California, and it’s listed on eBay with an opening bid of $200. Go Team Zissou.

Personal Submarine 1
It sort of looks like the builder of this homemade submarine started out with a Volkswagon Thing and just started pruning it down from there, but it’s definitely an eye-catching design.
Personal Submarine 2
It’s hard to accurately rate the condition of the interior on this submarine because we don’t have a lot of other homemade submarines to compare against. It needs some work, but come on, it’s a submarine.

1960 Carver runabout

Enjoy the water a little more with this 1960 Carver runabout. It was completely restored from the ground up in 2005.  The boat was taken apart and restored using all the original pieces for pattern. Some of the original wood was restored and the rest of the original pieces were used to pattern new pieces of mahogany.  It’s powered by an 80-horse 1970 Mercury outboard that’s only had six hours on it since it was rebuilt. The wood steering wheel came off a 1932 Chris Craft, but don’t be fooled, this isn’t a Chris Craft. Still. this 1960 Carver runabout is a nice boat and it’s practically brand new. It’s located in Portland, Oregon, and it’s listed on eBay with a starting bid of $7,000.

Yeah, that’s a Chris Craft steering wheel. It was part of the restoration on this Carver.

1990 Elite Craft Rivera

There’s something really cool about owning an original, but this 1990 Elite Craft Rivera has all the style of any vintage Chris Craft, and it’s a lot newer. If you want a boat for everyday use, it’s also nicer. I love the hull design, with convex sides at the bow rolling over to the top at the stern. It gives this Elite Craft a great profile in the water. Oh, and it’s not wood. This is a 20-foot fiberglass boat with a GM 350 Ram Jet fuel injected engine with less than 20 hours on it. It’s a throwback, but this 1990 Elite Craft Rivera is packing plenty of modern comfort and performance. It’s located in Salisbury, North Carolina, and you can Buy It Now for $32,500.

1960 Glasscraft with Flying Scott Motor

Here’s an interesting little 16-foot fiberglass runabout. It’s a 1960 Glasscraft with a 60-horse Flying Scott motor. The boat isn’t kitschy or heavily stylized like a lot of 50s and 60s fiberglass boats, but it still has some vintage style. The boat is clean, the chrome is shiny and the motor runs well. The original sparkly upholstery has some wear (obviously) but it’s still in good condition. The original manuals are even included. You could dress it up a little or take it out on the water as is. This 1960 Glasscraft is located in Gurnee, Illinois, and you can Buy It Now for $3,499.

1978 Hydrodyne Tournament Skier

I’ve rambled about my love for the true classic ski boats many times. Nautiques and Master Crafts are fabulous boats with function and style. Hydrodyne largely cut out the style part and built boats that served no function what-so-ever other then pulling skiers, and this 1978 Hydrodyne Tournament Skier is no exception. My local water ski show always had a Hydrodyne. It did all the heavy lifting. These boats would pull your house up if you could put skis under under. It has two seats and the biggest rearview mirror you’ll ever see in a boat. That’s about it. And if you’re serious about skiing – maybe you’ve always wanted to form your own pyramid on your local lake – those are the only features you need. This classic Hydrodyne Tournament Skier is located in Houston, Texas, and you can Buy It Now for $3,400.

1954 AristoCraft Typhoon

Up for bids here we have 1954 AristoCraft Typhoon in perfect restored condition. It’s obviously an old boat, but everything in it and on it looks brand new. It’s only been in the water five times since its restoration. The hull is all original with all the original hardware, and the decks were replaced about 35 years ago. The motor is a great running little 1956 Mercury Mark 25. And the interior, is, well, beautiful if you’re a Green Bay Packers fan. It’s green and yellow, which you can see from about a mile away, and it’s plenty bright. But I like it. It makes this 1954 AristoCraft Typhoon look much less stodgy than some classic woodies. It looks like a boat you should go out and have fun in. This AristoCraft is currently located in Chelsea, Michigan, and it’s on eBay with a current bid of $2,081.

1946 Garwood Ensign

This 1946 Garwood Ensign is about as nice as an antique boat can be. It was completely restored in 2013. It has a new interior and the original Chrysler Ace engine has been rebuilt. This boat even won Best Inboard at the 2013 Madison Area Antique and Classic Boat Show, which is sort of like the Catalina Wine Mixer of Midwest antique boat shows. Luckily, you’re almost guaranteed to make your nut with his boat. The seller doesn’t give any more detail, but this Garwood Ensign is beautiful, inside and out. You can take it to the boat show, but you really should just launch it on your favorite lake and cruise. It’s located in Waunakee, Wisconsin, just a stone’s throw north of the Badger States capital city, and you can Buy It Now for $24,900.
